The Breast Enlargement Procedure – Placement of the Breast Implants
Dr. Barttelbort will explain which method of implant placement will be best for achieving your cosmetic goals during your consultation at our office. To begin breast enlargement surgery, Dr. Barttelbort makes an incision around the areola, the circle of skin surrounding the nipple. He then inserts the breast implants either above or below the chest muscle. Once the breast implants are in the proper position, the incision is sutured closed.
Dr. Barttelbort always strives for natural-looking, symmetrical breast enlargement results when completing breast augmentation with implants. Post-operatively, patients experience minimal scarring and are generally very pleased with their enhanced bust line. Breast Reduction
Chronic neck and back pain, bra strap indentations on the shoulders, and general discomfort are all unfortunate realities for many women with large, heavy breasts. In addition to physical discomfort, oversized breasts can also make a woman feel self-conscious. To help these women, Dr. Barttelbort can reduce and reshape the breasts to a smaller, lighter, and more-proportionate size through breast reduction surgery.
The Breast Reduction Procedure
The breast reduction procedure begins with an incision, which is made around the areola (the dark circle of skin surrounding the nipple) and below the natural curve of the breast. Next, excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin are removed, and the remaining skin is tightened around the newly-contoured breast. The procedure may take up to three hours and is performed under anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Although there will likely be swelling, temporary bruising, and some pain after surgery, these side effects diminish as the breasts heal.

The Breast Reconstruction Procedure
Using either breast implants or the patient’s own tissue, breast reconstruction is usually performed in stages, often over a period of many months. Generally breast reconstruction is performed at the time of the mastectomy, and the first procedure is usually the longest and most complex. Subsequent surgeries usually take less time to complete, and involve less recovery time. In most cases, Dr. Barttelbort will work in conjunction with your oncologist and your general surgeon to create the most effective surgical plan for you.
